Rules related to maternity leave in India:

  1. Earlier maternity leave in India was for 12 weeks but in 2017 it has been extended to 26 weeks (182 days) by the Maternity Benefit Act.
  2. Under this, this benefit is given to women who have worked for 80 days in the last one year as an employee in the existing company.
  3. For mothers with more than two children this holiday benefit will be 12 weeks.
  4. Gazetted holidays of all months, Rabivars and all other government holidays are included in this holiday.
  5. To take maternity leave, it is necessary to have a healthy certificate by a government doctor.
